Landscapes

Landscapes Many of my oil paintings of landscapes are scenes in the southwest. The light and color in the southwest are incredible and can change the brown desert into a kaleidoscope of color which I try to capture in my oil paintings. Since moving to live in the southwest, I am fascinated with the magnificent colors in the landscapes in the southwestern desert. "Sacred Mountains" This original oil painting on canvas is actually of the Needles Mountains in California, just south of the Mohave Indian Reservation in Arizona. The Mohave Indians believe these mountains to be sacred because they believe that is where their spirit goes when they die. Therefore they never go to the mountains while they are alive.	"Red Rock Canyon" Red Rock Canyon is a collection of beautiful red rocks just outside Las Vegas Nevada. Although the red color comes from the minerals in the rock they are different shades at different times of the day and weather conditions. This original oil painting on canvas is what my eye saw one evening at dusk.	"Lake Mojave" This original oil painting is of part of Lake Mohave which is in Arizona and is the result of the Davis Dam on the Colorado River. At the right time of day the mountains around the lake take on beautiful pink, lavender, purple and blue colors. They almost don’t look real.
"Red Rock" This original oil painting on canvas is a scene of one of the lovely sights at Red Rock Canyon in Nevada.	"Sedona" This original oil painting on canvas is of Cathedral Rock in Sedona, Arizona. Sedona is such a beautiful, spiritual place it is difficult to decide what to paint first. Sedona is know for its beauty and breath taking scenic mountains.	"Sunrise on the Mountain" This original oil painting on canvas is of a mountain which stands as a sentinel high above the small western town of Oatman, Arizona which is on old route 66. When the sun or light hits the mountain just right it creates a kaleidoscope of colors.
"Navajo Country" The Navajo Country in and around the reservation is known world-wide for its scenic beauty. This painting was taken from a very old photograph which I have. The colors in that country are incredible when the sun hits it.	"Dawn on the High Desert Lake" I was fortunate enough to see dawn arrive on Lake Chelan in the high desert in Washington State in the summer. It is amazing what the light does to the mountains and lake.
